Summer’s Here — Don’t Let Your Training Vanish With It

It’s easy to lose momentum in the summer.

Barbecues, holidays, pub gardens, kids off school… suddenly your training rhythm takes a hit. And at BARCH, we’ll be the first to say — that’s not a crime. We’re not here to make anyone feel bad for living their life.

But if you’ve worked hard this year to get stronger, feel better, move more freely — now’s not the time to ghost your own progress.

A few missed weeks is no big deal. But months of drifting can set you back more than you think.

Here’s what the research says:

  • Cardio fitness can start to decline after just 7–14 days of no training.

  • Strength takes a little longer to fade — but studies show significant drops after 3–4 weeks of inactivity.

  • Even your motivation and routine take a hit the longer you stay away. The more you skip it, the harder it becomes to return.

The good news? You don’t have to train like an athlete to maintain what you’ve built.

You just have to keep showing up.

Even 1-2 sessions per week is enough to hold your ground and stay connected to the habit. Summer doesn’t have to be all in or all out — just something is always better than nothing.

Plus, let’s be real: BARCH isn’t just about reps and sets. It’s your outlet. Your hour to switch off. The community that reminds you of what you’re capable of — no matter what else is going on.

So this is your gentle reminder: if you're around, keep turning up. Keep your progress ticking over. Come sweat, laugh, train, and leave feeling better than when you walked in.

Because momentum matters. And future you will thank you for it.
